CANADIAN GREAT WAR PROJECT

The Canadian Great War Project is intended to promote interest in Canada's participation in World War 1, commonly referred to as the Great War, to research the Canadians who participated in the Great War 1914-1919 or other nationalities who served in the CEF. The content is primarily database driven to facilitate searches for information. The site is, and will continue to be, a work in progress; there are currently over 73,000 entries of individual soldiers, and has become a collaborative effort among those interested in researching Canada and the Great War.

AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL

As many of our website visitors are researching a person, we thought we'd try to make it easier to search for people in our collections. This provides a search mechanism that will help you by providing a list of only the relevant areas of the site & providing a "pre-configured search" to narrow down the results.

Russell W. Barnes

Here you will find a gazetteer of pill-boxes, air-raid shelters, Royal Observer Corps posts, coastal artillery, aerodromes, and other defence infrastructure in Cumbria that is quietly mouldering away, the threat of invasion and warfare it was constructed to stand against long gone..... I hope.

You will also find accounts of how Workington was defended during the Second World War (Largely a record of the Workington Home-Guard, including the 406th Coastal Defence Gunners), a section - 'The Human Angle' - consisting of anecdotes and memories of those people who lived through WWII, and a chart listing all the Inland Anti-Invasion Defences planned for Cumberland, outlining the precautions taken to defend the County should the day have come in 1940.
